COLOR + WOOD
COLORFUL CHARRED WOOD FOR INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR APPLICATIONS
Red hot, tickled pink, green with envy, blue blood, red tape, yellow belly. Color influences our everyday language and evokes physical, psychological and social responses. Color in design can set a mood, provide an accent, or even elicit a visceral response. reSAWN offers several wood designs in bright, bold colors. CHARRED + COLOR DESIGNS
Cypress is notable for its color consistency, density and hardness. Although cypress is a softwood, it grows alongside hardwoods and traditionally has been grouped and manufactured with hardwoods. The oils in cypress’ heartwood make it one of the most durable woods when exposed to moisture conditions causing decay. Cypress trees are natives of the south. They are found primarily in wet, swampy areas along the Atlantic Coastal Plain from Delaware to Florida.
These products are burnt and sealed and can be used for Interior Wall Cladding & Ceiling Cladding as well as Exterior applications. Our CHARRED designs pay homage to the traditional Japanese technique of “shou-sugi-ban” aka “yakisugi” without being literal. Historically very specific in their definition, “shou-sugi-ban” and “yakisugi” have become common nomenclature for modern charred wood designs in general.

For interior applications, we offer #2 common and Select Grade. The higher the grade, the better it is felt the wood will perform, especially in exterior applications. These designs are carefully charred, misted with water, cooled, brushed and then stained/sealed. The top coat sealer is applied prior to shipping (for exterior applications, we recommend sealing the back side as well as the face). The burning process accentuates the wood grain and creates varying colors when viewed from different angles and in different light.
EXPECT BEAUTIFUL WEATHERED WOOD
Our charring & sealing process makes for beautifully designed exterior wood siding. Like any exterior wood siding prefinished or finished in place, these materials will weather naturally over time and will require maintenance. For interior applications, expect little to no change. We’ve created this CHARRED USAGE GUIDE to tell you more.
