This mixed-use, commercial building is known as the most significant architecture build on this part of Montauk Highway in this century. It received a complete transformation, with an exterior that is fully clad with over 4,000 sq. ft. of reSAWN’s KUJAKU 3.0 Shou Sugi Ban Charred Cypress. The space features a 3,000 square foot store and two, 1,200 square foot apartments. The store is now Harbour’s New York Showroom, a family-owned, high-end furniture store.

KUJAKU 3.0 by reSAWN TIMBER co. features charred Cypress burnt in the Japanese style of shou sugi ban and can be used for interior wall cladding, ceiling cladding, and exterior siding.

Cypress is notable for its color consistency, density, and hardness. Although Cypress is a softwood, it grows alongside hardwoods and traditionally has been grouped and manufactured with hardwoods. The oils in cypress’ heartwood make it one of the most durable woods when exposed to moisture conditions causing decay. Cypress trees are natives of the south. They are found primarily in wet, swampy areas along the Atlantic Coastal Plain from Delaware to Florida.
