Daring Prairie is a Kansas family residence reimagined. Located on over an acre of land with a large pond near Overland Park, this home has been in the family for 30 years and is now updated to grow with the family for generations. Built with the surrounding landscape and environment in mind, the property features a main home and a guest house for visiting family. Portions of the exterior feature SAMITTO and MATSU shou sugi ban Accoya exterior cladding. The mixed materials on the home’s exterior provide a beautiful and cohesive natural palette.
Accoya is a sustainable building material throughout its life cycle. Not only does it have a low carbon footprint, but it is also the only construction material to achieve Cradle to Cradle Platinum certification for Material Health. The acetylation process of Accoya wood mimics nature, without adding any toxic substances. This ensures the performance and material health of the wood to achieve the highest level, Platinum. It’s also 100% recyclable and biodegradable at the end of its lifecycle.
Shou sugi ban Accoya combines high-performance modified wood and an award-winning charred technique. Inspired by an ancient Japanese process that dates back to the 1700s, shou sugi ban enhances the exterior performance and aesthetic value of natural wood products. Due to the enhanced durability of Accoya, a dense outer char layer allows the wood to transition to a beautiful weathered look seamlessly. All of our charred shou sugi ban Accoya products are FSC® certified and come with a 50-year warranty on the wood when used above ground and a 25-year warranty when used at/below ground level.
