This private residence features over 3,500 square feet of KUJAKU 3.0 shou sugi ban charred Cypress exterior cladding and 2,200 square feet of custom New Heart Pine flooring. From the back deck, there are breathtaking, uninterrupted views of the Long Island Sound. This lot once featured a fishing cottage and has been completely transformed into a spacious, private home. The house encompasses a sense of porosity: the gable recedes and the multitude of windows span the length of the house, which directs light into the home that changes color and position as the sun moves across the sky. Built with passive principles including triple pane windows, geothermal heating and cooling, and exceptional insulation, the house is set to last for years to come.
KUJAKU 3.0 by reSAWN TIMBER co. features charred Cypress burnt in the Japanese style of shou sugi ban and can be used for interior wall cladding, ceiling cladding, and exterior siding.
Cypress is notable for its color consistency, density, and hardness. Although Cypress is a softwood, it grows alongside hardwoods and traditionally has been grouped and manufactured with hardwoods. The oils in cypress’ heartwood make it one of the most durable woods when exposed to moisture conditions causing decay. Cypress trees are natives of the south. They are found primarily in wet, swampy areas along the Atlantic Coastal Plain from Delaware to Florida.
reSAWN TIMBER co. provides new and reclaimed wood products for architectural specifications for flooring. Our carefully curated offering includes modern finishes on reclaimed woods and newly harvested wood species. We provide only the highest quality materials milled to our exacting standards and finished in a way that enhances the natural beauty of the wood. Our extensive offering includes solid & engineered construction, wide plank flooring, and FSC ® woods.
MESH Architectures was founded by Eric Liftin in 1997 as a hybrid architectural practice spanning the physical and virtual. MESH has designed a wide range of projects, large and small, residential and commercial. They have also designed many websites (they are habitable spaces), sometimes integrating them into architecture – to reconceive relationships between people and their environments in the age of the digital network.
