ABOUT THE PROJECT
Studio G Architects selected reSAWN’s KURUMI shou sugi ban charred black walnut for the lobby of the Looking Glass Office.
STUDIO G ARCHITECTS, INC. is an architecture and interior design firm founded through the collaboration of Kelly Simcox, Glenn Bolich and Rick Yeh in 2007. STUDIO G is a woman owned company based in San Jose, CA with a proven track record of design excellence. As a full service firm, STUDIO G handles every aspect of the architecture and interior design to assure that each project’s unique design, budget and schedule expectations are met or exceeded.
This project features north american black walnut that has been burnt in the Japanese tradition of shou sugi ban. This ancient technique is gaining new life as a unique and modern interior and exterior wall cladding.
The wood is carefully charred, misted with water, cooled, brushed to remove dust and loose debris, and then stained/sealed to create the unique designs you will find in reSAWN’s shou sugi ban offering. The top coat sealer is applied prior to shipping (for exterior applications, we recommend sealing the face & back).
