Based in San Francisco, Philz Coffee is a coffee company and coffeehouse chain with over 50 locations. Started by Phil Jaber 25 years ago, Philz Coffee offers over 30 unique blends. Phil wanted to make sure the coffee making process embodied a personal and social feel, so he designed his own coffee station allowing for every cup to be crafted one cup at a time. By personalizing each cup, Phil had found a way to allow for individuality in every cup of love.
For the Burlingame location, reSAWN’s MOSHANNON North American white oak was chosen for the flooring. For the Corte Madera location, reSAWN’s OLD SCHOOL reclaimed oak barn siding was chosen as the siding of the counter.
MOSHANNON features the refined grain pattern of our rift & quarter sawn NORTH AMERICAN WHITE OAK – for flooring and wall cladding.
QUARTER & RIFT SAWN lumber is produced by first cutting the log into quarters and then making alternating cuts that are perpendicular to the annual growth rings. QUARTER SAWING produces boards with mostly vertical-grain and a distinctive figuring often referred to as “flecks”, “flakes” or “ray flecks” caused by the medullary rays of the log. RIFT SAWN lumber produces a very consistent and quiet board face with mostly vertical-grain.
This vertical-grain lends added stability to the QUARTER & RIFT SAWN boards making them less likely to cup or crown, making MOSHANNON ideal for wood flooring over radiant heat or concrete subfloors. MOSHANNON is prefinished with matte polyurethane.
OLD SCHOOL features ANTIQUE RECLAIMED BARN SIDING that has been sorted for all oak and then skip planed – for flooring and wall cladding. Skip planing is a process whereby the boards are put thru a planer set to only remove the high points, “skipping” over the low points to create contrast. Typical character marks include mineral staining, color changes, weathering, checking, nail holes, knots, and heavy patina. Due to the nature of this reclaimed wood, thicknesses tend to vary slightly. Available unfinished or prefinished with matte polyurethane.
