Sustainability, Built into Our Practice
How We Put Sustainability into Practice
At RESAWN, we put sustainability into practice through responsible sourcing, product development focused on durability, and specification guidance that considers a material’s environmental impact and performance over time. We bring together wood’s natural beauty and our technical expertise to help project teams make informed choices—from the source of a material to its performance in the finished space.
Responsible Sourcing. Considered Choices.
Every material has a story that begins before it reaches a project.
Our product line includes responsibly sourced wood species, domestic species, and FSC®-certified options. Paired with zero- or low-VOC finish options, these choices help project teams align their material selections with their design vision, application, and environmental priorities.
From wood sourcing to finish selection, we help teams make informed decisions. FSC®-certified options support responsible forest management, while zero- or low-VOC finishes address priorities around emissions and indoor environmental quality.
Our Approach: Performance Is Part of Sustainability
A material’s value extends well beyond installation. RESAWN consider sustainability throughout a material’s life—from responsible sourcing to long-term performance and environmental impact.
Durability, dimensional stability, and suitability for the application all matter when selecting wood for lasting use. Our understanding of species behavior, combined with product testing, manufacturing expertise, and specification guidance, helps teams evaluate how a material will perform over time. Selecting the right material for its intended use can extend its service life, reduce replacement needs, and minimize associated waste and carbon emissions.
We apply the same care to how wood ages visually. Before a material is selected, we help teams consider how its color, texture, and surface character may change with exposure, weathering, and maintenance. This approach makes the material’s evolving appearance part of the design intent from the beginning.
Transparency Supports Better Decisions
RESAWN holds FSC® Chain of Custody (CoC) certification, supporting the traceability of FSC®-certified materials through the supply chain, from sourcing through processing and sale.
We believe informed material decisions begin with clear, product-specific information. Our team helps architects and designers understand environmental attributes, verify available certifications, and identify documentation relevant to their project’s sustainability requirements.
Our offerings include select materials with:
- Zero- or low-VOC finishes
- FSC® certification
- Declare Red List Free status
- Cradle to Cradle certification
For projects pursuing LEED® or Living Building Challenge goals, we help teams evaluate material options and navigate the supporting documentation.
Certifications and environmental attributes vary by product. Contact our team to confirm availability and documentation for your selected material.
Expertise from Selection to Specification
Every project brings a different set of priorities. Our role is to help translate those priorities into a considered material specification.
We work with architects, designers, contractors, builders, and owners and their representatives to evaluate wood species, finishes, performance requirements, and sustainability objectives together. This collaborative approach connects design intent with the practical demands of the project.
The result is a more informed choice—supported by material knowledge, technical guidance, and an appreciation for the enduring beauty of wood.
