Nestled in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, Serenité is an exclusive private members club that combines the amenities of a boutique resort with the comfort of a luxury residential community. Designed as a year-round retreat, the property offers fully furnished private residences, outdoor gathering spaces, and resort-style amenities that encourage members to relax and connect with the surrounding mountain landscape.
The expansive outdoor terraces and pool areas play a central role in the member experience, requiring materials that balance refined aesthetics with exceptional long-term performance.
Material Selection & Performance
The outdoor living spaces feature CUSTOM thermally modified radiata pine decking, selected for its natural appearance, durability, and ability to withstand the demands of a high-traffic hospitality environment. The warm brown tones complement the surrounding landscape while creating inviting gathering spaces that transition seamlessly between architecture and nature.
Manufactured from thermally modified, FSC®-certified New Zealand plantation timber, Abodo® Decking delivers exceptional dimensional stability, reduced moisture absorption, and long-term durability. Protected with an eco-friendly exterior oil, the decking provides superior water repellency while naturally weathering to an elegant silver-gray patina over time. Its 25-year warranty made it an ideal solution for a project prioritizing both sustainability and performance.
Specification & Technical Support
Seeking a premium decking material that combined durability, low maintenance, and the authenticity of real wood, the project team partnered with RESAWN to evaluate available options. During a consultation at RESAWN’s headquarters, the architects reviewed the decking collection with a specification consultant before selecting CUSTOM thermally modified decking.
The material was delivered on schedule to meet the project’s accelerated construction timeline, ensuring the outdoor amenities were completed for the summer season. The successful performance of the decking led the project team to specify acetylated modified wood exterior cladding for a subsequent pool house addition, continuing the partnership with RESAWN.
