Set within the rolling countryside of East Aurora, New York, the Miller Residence is a fully custom home designed to embrace its four-season landscape while delivering lasting performance in Western New York’s demanding climate. The architecture combines contemporary design with natural materials, creating a residence that is both visually striking and deeply connected to its surroundings.

Material Performance & Design Integration

As both the architect and builder, Crafted Concepts sought a material system capable of performing across multiple applications while maintaining a unified architectural expression. Exterior cladding, soffits, interior flooring, and ceiling finishes all required materials that offered visual consistency, long-term durability, and compatibility with the home’s overall building systems.

For the exterior, WILLIWAW Weathered Alaskan Yellow Cedar and NERO thermally modified radiata pine cladding were selected for their durability, dimensional stability, and ability to withstand the changing weather conditions of Western New York.

The integrated design-build approach made constructability and coordinated detailing essential throughout the specification process.

Integrated Material Palette

A carefully coordinated wood palette creates continuity throughout both the interior and exterior of the home.

CUSTOM European White Oak extends from the flooring to the ceilings, establishing a consistent color, tone, and natural warmth throughout the interior living spaces. The species’ tight grain and timeless appearance complement the home’s clean architectural language while contributing to a healthy indoor environment.

Specification & Technical Support

Throughout material selection, RESAWN worked closely with the design-build team to evaluate finish options, performance characteristics, and installation requirements across both interior and exterior applications.

Technical guidance, product samples, and specification support helped the team confidently select modified wood and premium wood products that fulfilled the project’s aesthetic goals while meeting its performance requirements across a wide range of applications.
