Project Overview
Located in San Francisco’s South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood, The George Apartments offers contemporary high-rise living within walking distance of the city’s cultural, dining, and waterfront destinations. Designed with a hospitality-inspired approach, the residential community features thoughtfully curated amenities including resident lounges, rooftop terraces, a private clubroom, co-working spaces, and a fitness center. Within one of the shared lounges, VETTE shou sugi ban furfurylated modified wood wall cladding introduces a rich, textured backdrop that contrasts beautifully with the surrounding warm wood finishes while adding depth and character to the space.
Material Selection & Performance
The resident lounge features VETTE interior wall cladding, combining the traditional Japanese shou sugi ban charring technique with high-performance modified wood. The charred finish creates a distinctive surface rich in texture and depth, while highlighting the natural grain of the wood as light moves throughout the space.
Kebony® permanently modifies sustainably sourced wood to improve its durability and dimensional stability, creating a material suitable for both interior and exterior applications. The result is a striking architectural finish that delivers lasting performance while complementing the refined interior design of the resident amenity space.
Project Team
