Designed by IN-Studio, the Four Points House in Sharon, CT, meticulously embraces its four distinct views: mountains to the west, a meadow to the south, a farm to the north, and a forest to the east. Each carefully curated space within the residence is strategically oriented to capture and celebrate these natural panoramas, fostering an immersive connection to the surrounding landscape. The charred modified woods, achieved through the ancient Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban, echo the natural textures of the surroundings, further enhancing the overall aesthetic harmony of the house with its environment
Shou Sugi Ban represents more than a wood treatment; it embodies the enduring beauty and resilience of natural materials. Our meticulous charring process achieves diverse aesthetic effects, from a deep, uniform char to a lighter, brushed finish that highlights the wood’s natural grain. When applied to modified woods like Accoya® and Kebony®, the charred layer enhances durability, provides superior protection against rot and decay, and preserves both the wood’s integrity and aesthetic appeal.
