Crooked Tree Lodge reinterprets the classic American lakehouse through New Zealand-inspired design principles of natural materials and landscape integration. Reminiscent of the rural farm buildings common to Logan, AL, the lodge is comprised of three gabled pavilions housing the main living area, primary suite, and guest accommodations. The pavilions, connected by floating bridges, emphasize separation while preserving continuity.
Working closely with the design team, RESAWN helped refine and select materials that complemented the home’s muted, tactile palette while reflecting a commitment to material authenticity and environmental responsibility.
NERO FSC®-certified cladding, sourced from sustainably managed New Zealand forests, was selected for its natural character, durability, and suitability for the lakeside environment.
Before construction, a full-scale field mockup was installed on site to evaluate the cladding’s performance under local environmental conditions. This process allowed the design team to assess weathering, appearance, and overall compatibility with the regional climate before final installation.
