Husted Residence

Greenwich, CT

Architect: Tanner White Architect

Project Overview

Originally a traditional shingle-style residence in Greenwich, Connecticut, this home was completely reimagined into a contemporary European-inspired residence by Tanner White Architects. The renovation introduces an open floor plan, expansive glazing, and a restrained natural material palette that emphasizes light, simplicity, and seamless connections between interior and exterior spaces.

A continuous application of weathered wood unifies the architecture, allowing the home to transition effortlessly between indoor and outdoor environments while maintaining a timeless, understated character.

Material Selection & Performance

The residence features CUSTOM pre-weathered Western Red Cedar across both the exterior and interior wall cladding, creating a cohesive architectural language throughout the home. By carrying the same material from the façade into the interior, the design reinforces continuity while bringing warmth and natural texture to every space.

Developed by RESAWN to address the natural weathering characteristics of wood, the CUSTOM product is prefinished with a proprietary weathered appearance that replicates the look of cedar naturally aged by years of exposure. The finish provides a consistent aesthetic from the day of installation while minimizing the visual changes typically associated with exterior weathering. On interior applications, the finish remains remarkably stable, preserving its appearance over time.

Western Red Cedar’s natural resistance to moisture, decay, and dimensional movement further enhances long-term performance, making it an ideal species for both exterior and interior architectural applications.

Specification & Technical Support

The design team sought a material capable of creating a seamless transition between the home’s exterior and interior while maintaining a refined weathered aesthetic. RESAWN supplied a coordinated cedar cladding package that provided consistent color, finish, and performance across both applications, allowing the architecture to express a unified material palette from outside to in.
