The Scout Lake Residence, a modern home in Redmond, Washington, was built on the grounds of a former Boy Scout camp that operated from the 1950s to the 1990s. Designed by Stephenson Design Collective, the 3,900 sq. ft. house pays homage to the Pacific Northwest forests and the homeowner’s Danish heritage. The impressive house includes 1,700 sq.ft. of reSAWN’s DUNCAN 2.0 Shou Sugi Ban exterior cladding and was built for the CCO of the video game, Minecraft. This remarkable home is showcased in several architectural publications including Design Milk, Architectural Record, and is featured on the cover of Sunset Magazine. The stacked blocks and a mix of glass, concrete, and wood, almost replicate the video game itself. The architects were mindful of the protected lakeside area, ensuring environmental sensitivity throughout the construction process.

DUNCAN 2.0 is carefully charred, misted with water, cooled, brushed and then finished. The burning process accentuates the wood grain and creates varying colors when viewed from different angles and in different light. For interior applications, the wood is finished on the face only. For exterior applications, the wood is finished on the face only and sealed on the back & the two long edges.
