Nestled at the base of Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder, Colorado, Panorama House is a contemporary mountain retreat designed to embrace sweeping views of the Flatirons while responding thoughtfully to its natural surroundings. Inspired by mid-century architecture, the residence balances clean modern forms with a warm, natural material palette that integrates seamlessly into the site’s rugged landscape.
Carefully positioned to respect the property’s topography and historical context, the home creates a strong connection between architecture and the outdoors through expansive glazing and thoughtfully selected natural materials.
The exterior features thermally modified wood cladding, selected for its rich texture, durability, and ability to weather naturally over time. Sourced from sustainably managed New Zealand forests, Abodo®’s thermal modification delivers exceptional dimensional stability and long-term exterior performance while supporting the project’s environmental goals.
Beyond its architectural character, thermally modified cladding also satisfied the project’s demanding fire safety requirements. It provided the design team with a high-performance wood solution that met Boulder County’s fire code requirements without compromising the desired aesthetic.
Having successfully collaborated on previous projects, the design team partnered with RESAWN to develop a wood cladding solution that balanced architectural intent, code compliance, and constructability.
RESAWN provided technical submittals, coordinated product samples, and developed an early full-scale mockup featuring both the cladding and screening wall assemblies. Throughout construction, the team remained actively involved through site visits, in-person coordination, and ongoing technical support, helping ensure the exterior was executed as designed while delivering long-term performance.
