Located within the dunes of the Lido Club golf course at Sand Valley in Nekoosa, Wisconsin, Sand Valley House is an 8,850-square-foot modern barn designed as a recreational retreat that embraces its unique landscape. The eight-bedroom residence balances rustic character with contemporary architecture, creating intimate living spaces alongside expansive views of the surrounding sand dunes, ponds, and golf course.
Natural materials play a central role in the design, allowing the home to feel deeply rooted in its environment while paying homage to the region’s architectural heritage.
The exterior is clad in NATURAL thermally modified wood cladding, selected for its understated appearance, exceptional durability, and ability to complement the surrounding landscape. The textured fine sawn face enhances the natural grain of the wood, creating depth and visual interest that echoes the organic forms of the dunes and native terrain.
Crafted from sustainably managed New Zealand plantation timber, Abodo® Vulcan is thermally modified and engineered with a patented vertical grain orientation that delivers outstanding dimensional stability, reduced resin content, and long-term weather resistance. Its durability and low-maintenance performance made it an ideal solution for Wisconsin’s demanding climate and seasonal temperature fluctuations.
Working closely with the project team, RESAWN’s local specification consultant presented a range of thermally modified wood samples to evaluate aesthetics and performance before the final selection was made. NATURAL was ultimately chosen for its neutral tones, long-term durability, and 25-year warranty.
Throughout construction, RESAWN remained actively involved by providing on-site support during installation, helping ensure the cladding was installed correctly and performed as intended. The quality and consistency of the material contributed to an efficient installation process and a successful project outcome.
