Project Overview
Located in the heart of Denver’s Santa Fe Arts District, Tula is a sustainably designed apartment community that offers modern living with a focus on style and function. This thoughtfully designed development features 25 apartments with sweeping views of the city and mountains. Light toned acetylated modified wood clads the exterior of the apartments, offering a modern aesthetic while connecting the building with its surrounding topography. Over time, the wood will naturally weather to soft gray tones, maintaining its durability and structural integrity while evolving with the environment.
Recognition
Material Selection & Performance
Seeking a high-performance, low-maintenance exterior cladding solution, the design team selected custom-finished acetylated wood by RESAWN for the building’s façade. The light-toned wood complements the project’s contemporary architecture while naturally connecting the building to its surrounding landscape.
Modified through Accoya®’s patented acetylation process, the material provides exceptional dimensional stability, durability, and resistance to moisture. The custom finish was developed to support the wood’s natural weathering process, allowing the façade to gradually develop soft gray tones over time while maintaining its long-term performance with minimal maintenance.
Specification & Technical Support
Throughout design and construction, RESAWN worked closely with the project team, providing product samples, weathering documentation, site visits, and ongoing technical guidance to support the successful implementation of the cladding system.
When installation conditions differed from the original recommendations, RESAWN’s Technical Team collaborated directly with the architects to develop appropriate solutions, helping ensure the exterior would perform as intended while maintaining the project’s design vision.
