Project Overview
Perched on a gentle slope overlooking the water, the Roslyn Harbor House is a bold, modern residence that seems to emerge naturally from the hillside, its stepped form integrated into the site’s natural topography. Designed around a glass-enclosed garden, the home ensures every space has an abundance of natural daylight and unobstructed views of the harbor beyond.
To create a clean and simple contrast to the lush surrounding landscape, the Roslyn Harbor House is clad entirely in SURETO shou sugi ban Cypress, selected for its rich, deep tone and cohesion with the design’s stone, steel, and glass elements.
Material Selection & Performance
To create a striking contrast against the lush landscape, the exterior is clad entirely in SURETO. Selected for its rich, near-black finish and subtle tonal variation, the charred cypress complements the home’s palette of stone, steel, and glass while reinforcing its clean architectural expression.
Working closely with the project team, RESAWN provided product samples and guidance throughout material selection, allowing the architects to evaluate multiple charred finishes before selecting SURETO for its visual depth and character. Naturally durable cypress, enhanced through RESAWN’s proprietary charring process, delivers exceptional resistance to weathering and long-term performance in the coastal climate of Roslyn Harbor.
