Located in the heart of downtown Charlotte, North Carolina, the Charlotte Marriott City Center blends contemporary hospitality with flexible spaces for business and leisure travelers. The renovated hotel features an open-concept lobby, technology-enabled gathering spaces, restaurants, meeting venues, and guest accommodations designed to create a welcoming, connected experience. Throughout the public spaces, WEATHERWORN Reclaimed Barn Siding and CUSTOM shou sugi ban charred Cypress introduce authentic texture and warmth, reinforcing the hotel’s modern yet inviting character.
The project combines two distinct RESAWN materials to create contrast and visual interest throughout the interior. WEATHERWORN preserves the original patina of reclaimed wood, showcasing decades of natural weathering, mineral staining, nail holes, and character marks that lend authenticity and warmth to the hospitality environment. The naturally oxidized surface requires no additional finish, making it an ideal interior wall cladding material.
Complementing the reclaimed wood is CUSTOM shou sugi ban charred Cypress, whose carefully charred, brushed, and finished surface provides rich texture and depth while highlighting the natural grain of the Cypress. The contrast between the weathered reclaimed wood and the refined charred finish creates a dynamic material palette that balances rustic character with contemporary design.
