Project Overview
Located in the heart of Salt Lake City, Asher Adams Hotel transforms the city’s historic 1908 Union Pacific Depot into a contemporary luxury hospitality destination through a thoughtful adaptive reuse and expansion. The project preserves the landmark’s architectural character while introducing a new eight-story guest tower, creating a seamless dialogue between historic craftsmanship and modern hospitality.
Inspired by the golden age of rail travel, the hotel carefully integrates restored architectural elements—including original windows, tilework, and ornamental detailing—with contemporary materials and amenities. Today, Asher Adams serves as a vibrant destination featuring luxury accommodations, multiple food and beverage venues, and public gathering spaces that celebrate the building’s rich history while supporting its new purpose.

Material Selection & Performance
The project incorporates TOFF European White Oak flooring throughout the guest rooms and suites, where its warm natural tones and refined grain complement the restored historic architecture while bringing comfort and durability to contemporary hospitality spaces. Within the signature suites, the flooring works alongside soaring ceilings and expansive original windows to reinforce the connection between the building’s past and present.
The hotel’s signature cocktail destination, No. 119, features WILLIAMSPORT North American Black Walnut flooring. The deep, rich character of Black Walnut provides a sophisticated contrast to the restored stained glass, historic detailing, and elegant interior finishes, creating an intimate atmosphere within one of the hotel’s premier social spaces. Engineered with a substantial 4 mm wear layer, WILLIAMSPORT delivers the durability required for high-traffic hospitality environments without compromising the warmth and authenticity of real wood.
Both TOFF European White Oak and WILLIAMSPORT North American Black Walnut are FloorScore® Certified, supporting healthier indoor environments through low-VOC emissions while providing the long-term performance demanded by luxury hospitality applications.
Specification & Technical Support
As with many adaptive reuse projects, material integration required careful coordination between the building’s preserved historic fabric and newly constructed spaces. RESAWN worked closely with the design team by providing engineered flooring samples, finish evaluations, and technical guidance throughout the specification process to ensure seamless transitions between original and contemporary architectural elements.
Through ongoing collaboration with the architect and contractor, the project team successfully aligned color, texture, and installation details across multiple hospitality environments, allowing the flooring to reinforce the hotel’s unified design vision while respecting the character of this nationally significant landmark.
