Built from the ground up, A-Frame Beyond the Pines is nearing completion in the hills of Weber Canyon in Oakley, UT. Tucked into the landscape, backed by the dense evergreens of the Uinta-Cache National Forest, this uniquely crafted cabin and accompanying guest dwelling reimagines the classic mountain retreat with character and premium finishes.

With all the amenities of a luxury lodge, the home features handcrafted fixtures and materials, plus an additional outbuilding in progress. The exteriors of the structures are clad in KOS Shou Sugi Ban Kebony, selected for its fire resistance, durability, and striking aesthetic against the forested backdrop of the surrounding mountains.

Technical Support and Highlights

Since its inception in 2022, the project has evolved through deliberate planning, precise craftsmanship, and close collaboration. Having previous experience working with reSAWN through their company, Signature Floors, the homeowners reached out for exterior cladding to execute the design of their personal project. Highlights of the collaboration include:

• Material Selection: Working closely with the project team, our Specification Consultant identified materials that met both design intent and the environmental demands of Utah’s mountain climate. Following a detailed review, KOS Shou Sugi Ban Kebony was selected. The environmentally friendly modification process of Kebony enhances the properties of sustainable radiata pine to develop premium hardwood characteristics. The subsequent charring process creates a carbon layer that establishes a barrier against the elements and provides inherent fire resistance by slowing down the burning process and protecting the inner wood.

• Installation Support: For technical assistance, and to ensure proper installation techniques, the project team consulted with their Specification Consultant throughout the build. Detailed installation guidelines and weathering and maintenance documentation were provided to achieve the best possible results and lasting success.
