The Mays Landing residence rises above the horizon with a striking silhouette of individual structures linked by a central breezeway, giving each family member a private retreat while maintaining architectural cohesion. Set along the inlet in Mays Landing, NJ, the project called for materials capable of enduring coastal conditions while delivering a refined, monolithic expression. Familiar with reSAWN’s expertise and reputation for thoughtful, high-end solutions, the design team engaged with us to support their natural wood ambitions for the project.

For an exterior cladding that would weather consistently and require minimal upkeep, IKIGAI Charred Accoya was selected. An onsite mockup, left to weather for several months, quickly won over the homeowner and builder, revealing a surface with a nuanced play of light and shadow, and an understated richness unique from any other materials they had considered.

We delivered over 10,000 sq. ft. of IKIGAI in a 1×8 profile, paired with custom 3-1/2″-5″ V2 mitered corner assemblies engineered for precision and visual continuity. Extending up to 24 feet, the custom corners created long, uninterrupted transitions and a crisp installation that elevated the façade. Custom-milled IKIGAI trim for the doors and windows reinforced the clean geometry of the exterior.

To support production of precise custom elements and align with construction schedules, shipments were conducted in two phases. With additional orders placed in late 2025, the residence continues to evolve through a material chosen for longevity, clarity, and architecture that presents a strong presence along the coast.
