Principal designer and founder of a 1000x better (AXB), Kirsten Blazek, turned her former garage into a stunning and bold and inviting guesthouse. The design is perfectly balanced with statement pieces and neutral tones, including reSAWN TIMBER co.’s MERCER North American White Oak ceiling cladding. Every design element is bold and unique, while the overall design looks effortlessly made for each other.
Kirsten mentioned in an interview, “I wanted the guesthouse to feel just as finished as a main home and I thought of the ways I could truly make it feel rich and layered. I decided to clad the pitched ceiling in this lovely oak cladding from reSAWN TIMBER. It really helped elevate the guesthouse and added a cozy, rustic element to the space.”
MERCER by reSAWN TIMBER co. features the unique character and grain pattern of our original cut North American White Oak for flooring and/or wall cladding.
Original cut incorporates plain sawn, rift sawn, and quarter sawn grain patterns and all grades and character marks into the final product. This seemingly simple cut actually requires advanced knowledge and experience in the milling and drying process of wood to ensure that the harder heart wood does not become brittle and break apart through the drying or milling process. This is not a new method of cutting, but rather a modern take on a historic theme. Original cut White Oak’s unique blend of character and grain pattern recaptures this historic aesthetic for contemporary settings.
A1000xBetter was founded on the principal that design is a nuanced and layered process, requiring us to look past the surface. Fueled by a keen interest in design and a knack for color theory, Kirsten Blazek launched AXB as a home staging company in 2014. What began as a passion project quickly turned into a thriving business endeavor, as AXB became the sought-after staging firm in Northeast Los Angeles, and Kirsten the guru of layered, cultivated spaces. Hailing from Scotland, Kirsten carries with her an entrenched love of a refined and storied aesthetic narrative.
