The exterior incorporates CUSTOM charred cypress and CUSTOM acetylated modified wood, combining natural beauty with high-performance wood technology. cypress is valued for its consistent color, density, and hardness, while the shou sugi ban charring process enhances the wood’s natural texture and provides additional protection against weathering. Paired with a modified wood known for its exceptional dimensional stability and durability, the cladding system is designed to perform in Ketchum’s demanding climate while aging naturally alongside the surrounding landscape.

Specification & Technical Support

Long-term exterior performance was a primary consideration for the project, given the region’s significant seasonal climate fluctuations. Inspired by the use of cypress on the nearby Hardrock Project, the design team sought a light-toned wood that would complement the home’s architectural vision while providing lasting durability.

Working with a RESAWN Specification Consultant, the team reviewed several product options before selecting CUSTOM charred cypress for the exterior cladding and CUSTOM acetylated modified wood for the soffits. Together, the materials create a cohesive balance of tone and texture while meeting the project’s performance objectives.
