SURETO Shou Sugi Ban Charred Cypress

This private residence located in Connecticut is a unique coastal destination. The Norwalk shoreline features some of Connecticut’s best boating, public beaches, lighthouses, and marinas, all while being close to the New York metropolitan area. The grey, earthy tones of this project compliment the beach aesthetic found in Norwalk. On average, Norwalk receives more rainfall when compared to other states and sees typical high and low temperatures year-round. The durability of real wood cladding is an excellent fit for this climate. reSAWN TIMBER co. provided several mock-ups for this project to find the perfect fit. The final decision was SURETO due to how it weathered over time.

SURETO by reSAWN TIMBER co. features charred Cypress burnt in the Japanese style of shou sugi ban. SURETO is carefully charred, misted with water, cooled, brushed, and then stained/sealed.  The topcoat sealer is applied prior to shipping (for exterior applications, we recommend sealing the backside as well as the face).  The burning process accentuates the wood grain and creates varying colors when viewed from different angles and in different light.
