Located in the historic Cobble Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, Calderone Residence is a meticulously restored Greek Revival townhouse that became the forever home of creative director Athena Calderone and her family. Following a complete gut renovation spanning three years, the residence reflects Athena’s signature design philosophy—layering timeless architecture with thoughtfully curated materials, furnishings, and craftsmanship.
Widely recognized through Architectural Digest, House & Garden, Vogue, and featured on the cover of Athena’s book Live Beautiful, the home has become an iconic example of contemporary residential design that balances warmth, elegance, and everyday living.
The residence features KIP European White Oak throughout the home, creating a cohesive material palette that unifies the historic architecture with its contemporary interiors. The first floor showcases custom herringbone flooring, establishing a dramatic focal point within the expansive kitchen, dining, and entertaining spaces, while the second floor continues the design with 7-inch-wide KIP plank flooring.
Prefinished with a premium hardwax oil, KIP highlights the subtle grain and warm natural tones of select-grade European White Oak while providing a durable, repairable finish that develops character over time. The combination of herringbone and wide-plank installations introduces visual hierarchy while maintaining continuity throughout the residence.
As Athena noted on EyeSwoon, the European White Oak was intentionally selected to soften the cool tones of the home’s black-and-white marble, bringing warmth, texture, and balance to the overall material palette.
Working closely with the project team, RESAWN supplied a coordinated European White Oak flooring package that incorporated both custom herringbone and wide-plank installations. Utilizing the same product across multiple installation patterns allowed the home to achieve a timeless, cohesive aesthetic while highlighting the craftsmanship and versatility of the material.
