Designed to support a mission-driven national nonprofit organization, this new headquarters in Arlington, Virginia reimagines the modern workplace through collaboration, flexibility, and community. The office blends hospitality-inspired design with highly functional workspaces, creating an environment that encourages connection while supporting a wide range of work styles.
Organized around a central atrium, the design maximizes natural daylight and visual openness throughout the building. Open event spaces, interconnected work neighborhoods, and a series of feature staircases foster spontaneous interaction, while a restrained material palette creates a calm and welcoming atmosphere that reflects the organization’s values.
The project features approximately 9,000 square feet of KIP European White Oak flooring, selected to balance timeless warmth with a clean, contemporary aesthetic. The wide-plank flooring anchors the neutral interior palette while complementing natural stone and other biophilic design elements that contribute to occupant well-being.
Engineered with a substantial 6 mm wear layer and prefinished with a premium hardwax oil, KIP delivers exceptional durability for high-traffic commercial environments while preserving the authentic character of real wood. The light, natural finish introduces warmth and texture without overwhelming the space, creating an inviting workplace designed to support collaboration, productivity, and long-term performance.
Throughout the specification process, RESAWN collaborated closely with the design team to identify a flooring solution that aligned with the project’s aesthetic, performance, and budgetary objectives. Multiple species, finish, and width samples were provided, allowing the architects to evaluate material options and confidently select the product best suited to the overall design vision.
KIP was ultimately specified for its ability to integrate seamlessly with the project’s architectural finishes while providing the durability required for an active workplace environment. Ongoing coordination throughout specification helped ensure consistency in color, finish, and material quality across the project.
