Crooked Tree Lodge reinterprets the classic American lakehouse through New Zealand-inspired design principles of natural materials and landscape integration. Reminiscent of the rural farm buildings common to Logan, AL, the lodge is comprised of three gabled pavilions housing the main living area, primary suite, and guest accommodations. The pavilions, connected by floating bridges, emphasize separation while preserving continuity.
Working with the design team to refine and select materials that would blend the muted, tactile palette of contemporary architecture with material honesty and respect for the environment, we selected NERO FSC®-certified cladding for the exterior. Sourced from sustainable New Zealand forests, NERO offers the durability and character desired for this lakeside location. Once the cladding was identified, a full-scale mockup was installed onsite to expose the product to the local elements and ensure compatibility with the climate.
Inside, the commitment to material clarity continues, with NERO-clad accent walls and natural wood floors. AMITY European White Oak flows effortlessly from one room to the next, promoting tranquility and openness through the home. Our character-grade AMITY highlights the natural features of European white oak, while the 6mm engineered wear layer provides superior dimensional stability and strength.
