Located in Bellingham, Washington, the Gamer HQ project is currently under construction as a contemporary residence defined by clean lines and bold architectural forms. Designed with a cantilevered extension that creates a covered outdoor living space below, the home emphasizes a restrained material palette that highlights its distinctive geometry.
The clients envisioned a solid black exterior that would provide long-term performance while reinforcing the home’s modern character.
The exterior features CUSTOM FSC®-Certified charred acetylated modified wood cladding, selected for its exceptional durability, dimensional stability, and low-maintenance performance. Combining Accoya®’s acetylated wood with the traditional shou sugi ban charring process creates a high-performance exterior material designed to withstand the Pacific Northwest climate while delivering the deep black aesthetic envisioned for the project.
During the specification process, RESAWN worked closely with the design team, presenting a range of shou sugi ban wood options to evaluate different species and finishes. While the project initially considered charred Cypress, the team ultimately selected a custom charred acetylated modified solution based on its durability, warranty, and long-term weathering performance.
RESAWN collaborated with the architect to develop a material solution that aligned with both the project’s aesthetic goals and exterior performance requirements.
Construction is underway, with installation of the custom charred acetylated modified wood cladding progressing as the residence continues to take shape.
