Located in Potomac, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C., the Shadow Ridge Residence is currently being enhanced with GREY MATTER acetylated modified wood cladding. Set within a wooded residential landscape, known for its stunning estates and lush green spaces, the project pairs contemporary architecture with a durable exterior material palette designed to perform over the long term while complementing the home’s natural surroundings.
The exterior features GREY MATTER, selected for its through-body gray pigmentation and exceptional durability. The non-toxic pigment provides an immediate weathered-gray appearance that remains consistent across all exterior surfaces while naturally evolving over time.
Modified through Accoya®’s acetylation process, the wood offers outstanding dimensional stability, low maintenance, and long-term exterior performance, making it well suited for residential applications.
Having collaborated with RESAWN on several previous projects, the design team returned in search of a durable, low-maintenance wood cladding that would weather consistently over time. RESAWN provided a range of acetylated modified samples for evaluation, allowing the architects to compare finishes and select the option that best aligned with the project’s design goals.
GREY MATTER was ultimately specified for its rich gray tone, proven weathering performance, and long-term warranty, providing confidence in both the material’s appearance and durability.
Installation is currently in progress as the exterior continues to take shape, with the acetylated modified wood cladding being installed across the residence.
