Working to solve numerous social and community issues, this National Nonprofit organization sought a collaborative culture and interconnected workspace for the design of their new company headquarters in Arlington, VA. The reimagined office space blends hospitality with functionality, featuring open event spaces and flexible work neighborhoods interconnected by a series of staircases that facilitate collaboration and teamwork.
The design is organized around a central atrium that allows natural sunlight to permeate the space and promote clarity and visual openness. A neutral color palette is anchored by 9,000 sq. ft. of KIP European White Oak Flooring by reSAWN TIMBER co., for a contemporary yet timeless appeal that provides calm and comfort to employees in the built environment.
Technical Support and Highlights:
The choice of flooring for this project was centered around a very specific design aesthetic of blending the timeless with contemporary. To meet the design’s needs, reSAWN TIMBER co. delivered KIP, a wide plank, engineered European White Oak with a substantial 6mm wear layer for superior durability. Key aspects of the solution included:
- Collaborative Specification: reSAWN worked closely with the project architects to select a product that aligned with their design goals and the Nonprofit organization’s vision for their new workspace. We supplied samples of several different species, finishes, and widths to guide the design team to a choice that aligned with their aesthetic goals, durability needs, and budget.
- Finish and Color Optimization: OTJ Architects selected KIP to blend seamlessly with the building’s other design features and finishes, including natural stone elements, that support an inviting and productive environment. Prefinished with a hardwax oil, KIP is bright, clean, and natural with light character that brings a biophilic element to the space.
OTJ Architects creates inspiring, resilient spaces that uplift communities and support diverse individuals. They value agility, integrity, and strong partnerships, ensuring ethical design and lasting relationships to benefit clients and enrich cultural experiences.
