Project Overview
Situated on a 35-acre property in Wilson, Wyoming, ShineMaker is a private mountain retreat surrounded by mature pine and aspen forests with sweeping views of the Teton Range and Sleeping Indian Mountain. Composed of three interconnected buildings, the residence embraces its spectacular natural setting while providing direct access to an expansive 1,300-acre trail system.
The architecture draws from the surrounding landscape through a restrained material palette and bold contemporary forms, allowing the home to blend naturally into its rugged mountain environment.

Material Selection & Performance
The exterior is clad in MONOGATARI 2.0 shou sugi ban Cypress, selected for its rich charred appearance, natural durability, and ability to complement the surrounding forest. The deep black finish creates a striking contrast against the changing seasons while reinforcing the home’s connection to the landscape.
Produced through a meticulous shou sugi ban process of charring, cooling, brushing, and finishing, MONOGATARI 2.0 accentuates the natural grain of the cypress while creating subtle tonal variation that changes with shifting light. Naturally rich in cypressene oils, cypress offers inherent resistance to moisture and decay, making it a durable, low-maintenance solution for demanding exterior applications. Its performance and stability made it a fitting choice for the challenging mountain climate and heavy snowfall of Wilson, Wyoming.
