Located in Weston, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston, the Sylvan Residence is currently under construction in one of the region’s established residential communities. The home embraces a contemporary architectural approach while responding to the wooded surroundings through a restrained material palette and clean exterior detailing.
The exterior features NIGIRI charred acetylated modified wood cladding, selected for its distinctive shou sugi ban aesthetic, exceptional durability, and low-maintenance performance. The combination of the traditional charring process with Accoya’s® acetylation technology provides outstanding dimensional stability and long-term resistance to the elements, making it well suited for exterior applications.
The deep charred finish complements the home’s modern architecture while creating a strong contrast against the surrounding landscape.
The project team selected NIGIRI to achieve a durable, natural wood exterior that balances architectural expression with long-term performance. Throughout the specification process, RESAWN worked with the design team to provide product guidance and support, helping ensure the selected material aligned with the project’s aesthetic and performance objectives
Construction is underway as the Sylvan Residence continues to take shape, with exterior cladding installation progressing toward completion.
