Located in Aspen, Colorado, the Red Mountain Residence is currently under construction within one of the region’s premier mountain communities. Designed to respond to Aspen’s alpine climate and surrounding landscape, the home incorporates natural materials that complement its setting while providing long-term exterior performance.
The project features approximately 3,250 square feet of exterior wood cladding, selected to withstand the area’s fluctuating temperatures while maintaining a consistent architectural appearance.
The exterior is clad in WILLIWAW Alaskan Yellow Cedar, chosen for its weathered aesthetic, natural durability, and dimensional stability. The pre-weathered finish provides a consistent appearance from installation, minimizing the visual variation often associated with naturally aging wood cladding.
Sourced from the Pacific Northwest, Alaskan Yellow Cedar is valued for its long-term performance and ability to withstand demanding exterior environments, making it well suited for mountain climates with significant seasonal temperature changes.
The project team selected WILLIWAW to achieve a natural wood exterior that complements the surrounding mountain landscape while reducing aesthetic variation over time. Throughout the specification process, RESAWN worked with the design team to provide product guidance and support, helping ensure the selected material aligned with the project’s architectural and performance goals.
Construction is underway as the Red Mountain Residence continues to take shape, with exterior cladding installation progressing toward completion.
