The Baystone Retreat is taking shape in a small county along Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Its wide, cantilevered porch extends over the landscape, offering sweeping views of the Choptank River. Clad in NIGIRI Charred Accoya® and OXFORD Accoya® decking, the home makes a bold yet understated statement—its clean lines and weathered grey siding give it a sense of permanence, as if it has stood in the landscape for decades.
Charred NIGIRI Accoya® wood is crafted using the ancient Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban. The outer layer of the wood is charred, and when combined with the modified Accoya® species, it results in a material that is dimensionally stable, durable, and low maintenance. This makes it an ideal choice for builders and architects seeking high-quality exterior cladding in a coastal climate.
reSAWN’s OXFORD Accoya® wood features a non-toxic gray pigment, presenting a through-body color that weathers naturally. This material provides an immediate gray finish, ensuring consistent color across all exterior surfaces, regardless of orientation or application.
Project Needs: The architects were seeking a gray natural wood exterior siding that was low-maintenance and would weather beautifully over time.
Project Solutions: A reSAWN specification consultant visited the job site to discuss the best solutions for the project’s exterior and decking. We provided our prized gray Accoya samples for the clients to choose from, given Accoya’s ability to perform exceptionally well in coastal climates. NIGIRI exterior cladding and OXFORD decking were selected for their light gray, consistent tones.
