NEWBURYPORT by reSAWN TIMBER co. features wide plank, plain sawn select or character grade North American Black Walnut prefinished with UV oil for flooring, interior wall and ceiling cladding. The wide face width showcases the full character and grain pattern that black walnut has to offer.
North American Black Walnut is a heavy, strong wood defined by its rich deep browns and beautiful figure. Plain sawn boards are produced by cutting tangentially to a tree’s growth rings producing the familiar “cathedral” or “flame” pattern on the board face. The annual growth rings are generally at a 0°- 30° angle to the face of the board.
The grain pattern of black walnut is mostly straight and open, but some boards have burled or curly grain.
NEWBURYPORT is available as FSC® upon request.
GRADE
CHARACTER
Our character grade highlights the natural features in North American Black Walnut. We allow the presence of knots, cracks, and sapwood. The allowance of up to 2” diameter knots, and open knots of up to 3/4” create a flooring grade that is both natural and sophisticated. Open voids are filled with a dark brown epoxy prior to finishing.
SELECT
Our select grade North American Black Walnut is made using FAS (First and Seconds) lumber which is the highest possible grade. The grade is typically free from defects, but some are allowed. We allow for occasional pin knots and small filled knots up to 1/2” in diameter. Efforts are made to cull sap, but some edge or end sap may be present.
NOTE: All imperial dimensions are approximate. Product photos are meant to be a general guide to product appearance only. Due to our handcrafted process and wood being a product of nature, the color, grain pattern, character and profile will vary between individual boards on a project and will never be an exact match.
