ABOUT THE PROJECT
Located in Sharon, CT this residence features reSAWN TIMBER co. YOSHIMI Accoya shou sugi ban. Accoya® is wood, but not as you know it. It is a modified timber in which a process called acetylation, a cutting-edge patented technology, enables it to it resist rot, defy the elements and stay strong for decades.
Performance and sustainability together are what makes Accoya so unique. The trees selected to make Accoya are sourced from fast growing, abundantly available sustainably certified forests. Accoya sustainable wood offers an alternative to slow growing and often unsustainable hardwoods, as well as many other carbon intensive and depleting materials such as plastics, aluminum and concrete.
The foundation of this family home in Sharon, CT, is a reclaimed barn. Ted Porter Architecture’s design included two addition to the original structure. With similar materials and form the additions follow a the contemporary design elements. The large windows allow for light-filled indoor spaces and showcase views of the surrounding landscape. YOSHIMI shou sugi ban charred FSC-Certified Accoya® wood siding on all the structures ties the individual house components together into a balanced ensemble.
