Project Overview
Located within the exclusive Martis Camp community between North Lake Tahoe and historic Truckee, California, this custom mountain residence embraces the region’s extraordinary alpine landscape. Set among forests, meadows, and granite outcroppings, the home was designed to complement its surroundings through a restrained material palette and timeless architectural detailing.
More than 4,000 square feet of natural wood cladding define the exterior, allowing the residence to blend seamlessly into its environment while standing up to the demanding conditions of the Sierra Nevada climate.
Material Selection & Performance
The exterior is clad in WILLIWAW Alaskan Yellow Cedar, selected for its naturally weathered appearance, exceptional durability, and long-term dimensional stability. The soft gray and warm tan tones complement the surrounding mountain landscape, providing a refined aesthetic that will continue to age gracefully over time.
Available in clear vertical grain, WILLIWAW offers a clean, consistent appearance with minimal character marks while retaining the authenticity of real wood. Sourced along the Pacific Coast, Alaskan Yellow Cedar is one of North America’s most durable softwoods, valued for its natural resistance to rot, insects, and moisture. Its slow growth rate and dense grain structure contribute to outstanding stability, while its ability to readily accept finishes makes it an ideal species for RESAWN’s proprietary weathered finishes, delivering a consistent appearance from installation through long-term weathering.

The project required a natural wood cladding capable of performing in an exposed mountain environment while maintaining a refined, weathered aesthetic. RESAWN supplied WILLIWAW Alaskan Yellow Cedar to provide the warmth and authenticity of real wood together with the durability and finish consistency necessary for a luxury alpine residence.
