ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Independence Health Group is the leading health insurance company and strives to build healthier lives for its customers. Serving more than 8 million people nationwide and nearly 2.5 million in the region, the newly designed IBX Center for Innovation included reSAWN TIMBER co.’s BELLEPORT black walnut flooring as a part of its new two-story, 30,000 sq foot building, specified by Meyer Design Inc. It also included reSAWN’s KOI shou sugi ban charred cypress interior wall cladding at the cafe and our BLACK & TAN reclaimed Hemlock wall cladding on the logo feature wall.
BELLEPORT by reSAWN TIMBER co. features wide plank plain sawn select or character grade American Black WALNUT prefinished with matte polyurethane for flooring or wall cladding. The wide face width showcases the full character and grain pattern that black walnut has to offer.
American Black Walnut is a heavy, strong wood defined by its rich deep browns and beautiful figure. PLAIN SAWN boards are produced by cutting tangentially to a tree’s growth rings producing the familiar “cathedral” or “flame” pattern on the board face. The annual growth rings are generally at a 0° – 30° angle to the face of the board.
The grain pattern of black walnut is mostly straight and open, but some boards have burled or curly grain.
KOI features CHARRED CYPRESS burnt in the Japanese style of shou sugi ban. KOI can be used for interior or exterior wall cladding. For exterior cladding, we offer Select Grade. For interior applications, we offer #2 common and Select Grade. The higher the grade, the better it is felt the wood will perform, especially in exterior applications.
BLACK & TAN features antique reclaimed hemlock that has been wire brushed to accentuate the unique grain pattern of hemlock and finished with a stain/sealer. Expect lots of texture and variation to the grain. Standardly used for wall and ceiling cladding (not appropriate for flooring). HEMLOCK is one of the harder of the softwoods with a Janka rating of 500. BLACK & TAN is rich in both color and character marks include mineral staining, color changes, weathering, checking, nail holes, and knots. Face nailing recommended.
