The Sand Valley House, situated at the newly opened Lido Club golf course in the dunes of Nekoosa, WI, offers a rustic escape. Designed by Northworks Architects, this 8,850 sq.ft. modern barn features eight bedrooms, blending rustic charm with the allure of a recreational retreat. Each room captures both intimate and sweeping views of the landscape, fostering a unique sense of connection to the natural surroundings. The grain patterns of the Abodo Vulcan Cladding adds an organic complexity, complementing the irregular shapes of the sand dunes and the rippling pond. By incorporating traditional materials into the design, the architect has crafted a modern structure that remains deeply connected to the town’s heritage.
Abodo Vulcan thermally modified wood cladding is crafted from sustainably sourced New Zealand plantation timber and engineered with a patented vertical grain orientation for enhanced weather resistance. reSAWN TIMBER co.’s Abodo Fine Sawn Face Vulcan Cladding features a distinctive textured surface that highlights the depth of the wood grain. This fine sawn texture opens the wood grain to allow for optimal coating performance. The thermal modification process, combined with the vertical grain structure, ensures superior stability and reduces resin content, making Vulcan cladding exceptionally durable.
Project Needs: Northworks Architects sought a wood cladding that would connect the building to its natural surroundings. They needed a material durable enough to withstand Wisconsin’s temperature fluctuations while requiring minimal maintenance.
Project Solutions: A reSAWN local Specification Consultant met with the client and architect, presenting samples from our thermally modified wood collection. NATURAL Abodo Vulcan Cladding was chosen for its neutral tones, durability, and 15-year warranty, making it an ideal choice for the project’s location, known for its unpredictable weather. During installation, our consultant visited the site to ensure the process was progressing smoothly.
Project Results: The architect and builder are highly satisfied with the outcome. The installer praised the ease of working with the material, emphasizing the high quality of the planks, which made for a smooth and efficient installation process. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Northworks Architects on future projects.
