Nestled away in the woods on nearly 7 acres in Great Falls, Virginia, is The Millwood Residence. Close by is Difficult Run River; the area has had many historical uses dating back to the early 1800s. The home features plenty of room to entertain and features indoor-outdoor living spaces to take advantage of the remarkable land that surrounds the home. This residence was designed to grow with the family and inspired by its natural surroundings. The interior features 3 reSAWN TIMBER co. products which are used in the hearth room and the foyer. SURETO is utilized in the hearth room, WASHOE is used for interior cladding, and ALPINE is used in the entry foyer that features a custom wall base.

WASHOE by reSAWN TIMBER co. features Alaskan Yellow Cedar that is sourced anywhere from Alaska to Oregon and intended to provide a high-performing, natural material with a weathered aesthetic. WASHOE can be used for interior or exterior wall cladding and is standardly select tight knot grade. reSAWN’s weathered designs offer a consistent aesthetic from the moment of installation.

SURETO is made with Cypress sourced from the Southern United States and can be used for interior wall cladding, ceiling cladding and exterior siding.  With its legendary beauty and natural durability, Cypress has long been a staple as an exterior wood siding product.  Because Cypress generates its own preservative oil, called cypressene, it’s an ideal wood for locations with constant heat, humidity, and torrential rains.

ALPINE features the unique character and grain pattern of our original cut North American White Oak. Original cut is a way of cutting the log that incorporates plain sawn, rift sawn and quarter sawn grain patterns and all grades and character marks into the final product. This seemingly simple cut actually requires advanced knowledge and experience in the milling and drying process of wood to ensure that the harder heart wood does not become brittle and break apart through the drying or milling process. This is not a new method of cutting but rather a modern take on a historic theme. Early settlers used this through-and-through method of sawing to quickly and efficiently produce flooring for their barns and homes. Original cut White Oak’s unique blend of character and grain pattern recaptures this historic aesthetic for contemporary settings.
