ABOUT THE PROJECT
reSAWN TIMBER co.’s recently renovated corporate headquarters houses executive management and support staff, plus plenty of manufacturing space for product design & production.
The goal of the design/build renovation with Ernst Brothers was to fit out the public spaces and the main office areas – conference room, showroom, lobby, cafe and main corridors and outdoor deck and entertainment area to better reflect the clientele that we serve – architects and interior designers. In the near future, we plan to hold showroom and manufacturing facility tours, pop-up events, and industry related educational workshops.
The front of the building utilizes reSAWN’s fully charred Kebony® wood cladding & Western Red Cedar to provide a maintenance free yet sustainable solution for the exterior.
reSAWN chose Corten Steel for the outdoor sign at our corporate office because of its high strength, low maintenance, and the way that it weathers to an attractive deep russet patina with time.
The outside space at the rear of the building was created for employees and clients to gather, eat, and work outside.
Abodo® Vulcan Decking in CLEAR finish was used for the deck. Vulcan decking is created from thermally modified New Zealand plantation timber and then treated with an organic preservative system that includes a water repellent for superior durability. The thermal modification process means Vulcan decking has enhanced stability, reduced resin content and is a beautiful homogeneous brown color. The decking is expected to weather naturally to a silver-grey.
Outdoor wood furniture from Westminster Teak is featured near the fireplace and throughout the deck. Custom prefab concrete counters from Majestic Concrete flank the outdoor grilling area. reSAWN’s Abodo Vulcan cladding in NERO was used for the base cabinets, posts, beams and slats of the pergola.
The Ivy trellis frame was fabricated out of Corten Steel along with reSAWN’s Abodo Vulcan cladding in NERO. Both materials will patina with grace when left to weather outdoors.
The fireplace is the focal point of the deck and is finished with a tinted limestone plaster, a technique that has been used for centuries. It provides a modern, one-of-a-kind aesthetic, and the material weathers well.
