ABOUT THE PROJECT
CAROLYN CARTWRIGHT selected reSAWN’s MOYASU shou-sugi-ban charred wood siding to compliment her handblown glass lamps at the 2015, 2016, and 2017 A+D Show in New York. In addition to the CHARRED siding, Cartwright included a custom RSTco. NETSU shou sugi ban red oak wrapped credenza and live edge American Black Walnut slab table
The annual Architectural Digest Home Show is a feast for the eyes, showcasing the work of artists and artisans from around the globe. In a sea of white booths, CAROLYN CARTWRIGHT’s booth stands out with reSAWN’s MOYASU shou sugi ban charred wood siding. These handmade cypress planks are burnt and finished in the USA.
Carolyn Cartwright makes hand blown glass lamps in “the tradition of the Venetian masters, but liberated by our american perspective.” The affinity of these materials is readily apparent in both their hand made nature and use of fire to produce a functional work of art.
The ancient technique of shou sugi ban is gaining new life as a unique and modern interior and exterior wall cladding. The wood is carefully charred, misted with water, cooled, brushed to remove dust and loose debris, and then stained/sealed to create the unique designs you will find in the CHARRED collection. The top coat sealer is applied prior to shipping (for exterior applications, we recommend sealing the face & back).
