wide plank flooring is a timeless and elegant flooring feature commonly found within late 19th century homes. due to the advanced age of trees during this time, thicker trunks provided ready access to wide planks. while almost all types of wood can be milled this way, the thinner, younger trees we see today do not lend as well to this type of flooring, making wide plank flooring less common.
reSAWN provides a wide plank option in almost all of our flooring designs. Most of our designs are available up to 8″ wide with some available up to 10″ wide – please contact us to inquire about a specific design. these wider cut boards reveal even more of the wood’s natural beauty as the uninterrupted grains and patterns flow seamlessly through the plank.

RECLAIMED BEAMS from reSAWN TIMBER co.
rough sawn and hand-hewn reclaimed oak and pine beams serve not only as unique feature pieces, but also come with a rich and varied history. this aged wood is ideal for the creation of rustic mantles, shelving, structural posts, and trusses.
reSAWN provides beautiful, reclaimed barn beams in the raw – including original hand-hewn pieces. hand-hewing is the process of transforming a tree trunk into a squared up beam. traditionally the broad-axe was used for scoring and for hewing larger pieces of lumber.
Reclaimed beams go thru the typical reclaimation process of denailed and power washing. no finish is needed for this wood since it has been naturally oxidized over the years to produce a tough, weather resistant “skin”. common character marks include circle sawn kerf, mineral staining, color changes, weathering, checking, nail holes, knots, notched out pockets and heavy patina. thicknesses tend to vary slightly.

FLOORING and INTERIOR WALL/CEILING CLADDING
BARK SIDE features a compilation of six nature-inspired designs in colors ranging from a crisp, snowy white to a dark, dusky gray. the name of the collection and the textured surface of the material was inspired by the horizontal ridges, known as lenticels, that are seen on the bark of species such as birch and black cherry.
the BARK SIDE designs are sustainably sourced, original cut white oak with a textured surface and are prefinished with our hardwax oil. the original cut incorporates plain sawn, rift sawn and quarter sawn grain patterns and all grades and character marks into the final product. in each design you will find common character marks including knots, checks, streaks and worm holes. our hardwax oil is natural, non-toxic and 100% VOC-free, and produces a durable, matte finish that respects the natural look and feel of the wood.
In historic UPPER MAKEFIELD township sits a sprawling farm, sprinkled with welcoming cottages, a renovated barn and a cozy main house. the nearly century-old buildings have been completely gutted, yet speak to the rich history of the area. Upper Makefield Township is memorialized as the turning point of the American Revolution at Washington Crossing Historic Park, aptly named for the Christmas evening George Washington led American forces across the Delaware River in 1776. Callaghan Interior Design, a PA-based firm with over 30 years of design experience, is leading this restoration project and specified several of reSAWN’s designs for flooring, wall cladding, and custom millwork:

WALL CLADDING:

Rustic, strong, and deeply rooted in our history, American chestnut is an exquisite wood. Once dominating our eastern forests, and providing a seemingly endless supply of straight-grained, decay-resistant wood, these trees fell to an Asian-based fungal blight at the turn of the 20th century that all but wiped out the species. The blight left behind a mass of fallen timbers used for countless homes and buildings throughout the remainder of the century. Since 1983, the American Chestnut Foundation has been working to restore these trees. The foundation uses the backcross breeding method in an effort utilize the blight-resistant characteristics of the Chinese chestnut, while still maintaining the integrity of the American species. While the foundation works to restore balance to our forest ecosystem, reSAWN is working to preserve and reclaim chestnut from historic structures, recapturing the beauty of these antique woods. WORMWOOD , so named for the generous amount of worm holes found throughout the wood, includes defining character marks such as mineral staining, nail holes, and knots, and ranges in color from light tans to deep browns. See the beauty of WORMWOOD reclaimed chestnut on display in the Ambler Boiler House project, and this PA-based Barn Renovation.

Logs can be cut in several different ways to produce materials of varying aesthetics and dimensional stability. Understanding how these cuts are made in relation to the growth rings of the tree is the key to understanding the different look and performance of each cut. plain sawn is the most common cut of wood and is featured thoughout the Plateau collection. Rift & quarter sawn white oak is highly desired for both its clean aesthetic and dimensional stability. Read more reSAWN-Cuts-of-Wood.

Historically used throughout Europe and by early American settler’s to preserve and enhance the beauty of natural wood surfaces, Hardwax-Oil finishes are being rediscovered for their many unique benefits from the beauty they preserve to their ease of maintenance. Our Hardwax-Oil is a modern take on this traditional finish and has been improved with technology to connect the oil to the wood fibers by means of a molecular reaction, resulting in more durable protection. The natural oil penetrates deeply into the wood pores, bonding with the wood fibers while the wax remains on the surface to create a beautiful matte finish and to form a protective, resistant layer. Our Hardwax-Oil finish is ALL NATURAL, non-pollutant and completely non-toxic. It does NOT contain biocides, preservatives, lead-benzene and is 100% VOC-free (Volatile Organic Compounds).
