VOLVER RESTAURANT FEATURING RIVERBED WHITE OAK

Volvér (which means “to return”) opened its doors inside the Kimmel Center April of 2014. The restaurant features a chic bar and intimate dining area, and showcases the culinary talents of one of the country’s leading chefs and restaurateurs, Jose Garces.
Marguerite Rodgers Ltd. designed the serene and welcoming space, incorporating our RIVERBED white oak flooring into the final design. The firm is often praised for its incredible attention to composition and detail.

RIVERBED features our original cut white oak. original cut is a way of cutting the log that incorporates plain sawn, rift sawn and quarter sawn grain patterns and all grades and character marks into the final product. common character marks include knots, checks, streaks and worm holes. RIVERBED is prefinished with matte polyurethane.

WINTER SWEET: rift & quarter character grade white oak prefinished with hardwax oil. WINTER SWEET has a subtley textured surface and a cool grey hue.

MOONSHINE: original cut white oak prefinished with hardwax oil. MOONSHINE features a finish with green and gray tones that compliment the natural hues of the white oak.

RIVERBED: original cut white oak prefinished with a matte urethane. this durable, bold design was recently installed in Philadelphia’s KIMMEL CENTER – check back soon for installation photos.

project spotlight :: FELDMAN SHEPHERD

WILLIAMSPORT, Black Walnut finished with Hardwax Oil was selected by Francis Cauffman for the featured wall in the regional headquarters of personal injury and medical malpractice law firm, Feldman Shepherd.

Francis Cauffman , known for providing strategic guidance and creative design for projects around the globe, created a “comforting, yet client-focused public zone” for the firm by utilizing a variety of sustainable elements. The project materials include recycled porcelain tile, glass partitions, energy efficient lighting systems, and reSAWN’s WILLIAMSPORT Black Walnut – sustainably sourced, milled and finished in the USA.

Feldman Shepherd is located along historic Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia and has been recognized for many professional leadership and community service achievements.

MEDITATION is available in solid and engineered construction, unfinished or prefinished and in a variety of widths and lengths. antique reclaimed wood lets us connect with nature and human history in an unprecedented way. long before Columbus founded the new world, the seedlings of the great North American forests were taking root. left undisturbed for centuries, these seedlings were able to slowly grow into massive trees, basking in the ample pollution-free air and water of pre-industrial America. this slow growth and natural habitat is key to the unique beauty and strength of antique reclaimed wood. slow growth produces trees with much tighter growth rings and consequently finer grain. it also produces significantly more heartwood, which is stronger and more durable than younger sapwood.

rift & quarter sawn white oak floors contribute to the zen-like atmosphere of the newly constructed dormitories at the prestigious Haverford College. Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects designed the buildings to work in concert with the landscape to form a sense of community that is both contained and enhanced by nature. The ‘FSC-Certified Pure’ ® white oak will also contribute to the LEED Gold certification for this project.

adaptive reuse :: AMBLER BOILER HOUSE

In 1881, the Keasbey & Mattison Company decided to move their pharmaceutical manufacturing business from Philadelphia to Ambler which was already a thriving farming and industrial community. Entrepreneur Henry G. Keasbey and Dr. Richard V. Mattison began constructing factory buildings and warehouse facilities such as the Ambler Boiler House, creating jobs that brought many new people to the Ambler area.

As a perfect example of Adaptive Reuse, the Ambler Boiler House, after sitting empty since the mid 1970’s, is gaining new life as a state-of-the-art office building aiming for LEED Platinum certification, which will accommodate 10 to 12 tenants. The building features a number of sustainable principles, including a geothermal heat pump system, recycled rainwater irrigation system, and interior finishes made from recycled content.

Heckendorn Shiles Architects, the lead design firm for the building, specified reSAWN TIMBER co.’s Engineered Antique Reclaimed Chestnut from the enCORE collection for wall cladding and stairs surrounding the stairway entrance in the main lobby and on the 2nd and 3rd floor stairway entrances. The reclaimed chestnut is finished with reSAWN TIMBER co.’s Hardwax Oil providing a beautiful matte finish that compliments and enhances the natural look of the wood. The reclaimed Chestnut and zero-VOC Hardwax Oil finish will help contribute towards the goal of LEED Platinum certification for this project.
