SHOU SUGI BAN SIDING at the EASTMAN EGG CO.
the Chicago-based Eastman Egg Company had been serving up delicious, all-natural, made-to-order breakfast sandwiches from their mobile food truck before deciding to open a storefront on Wacker Drive. The interior of the restaurant is clad in our MOYASU cypress siding. This project features #2 common grade cypress that has been burnt in the Japanese tradition of shou-sugi-ban. this ancient technique is gaining new life as a unique and modern interior and exterior wall cladding. The wood is carefully charred, misted with water, cooled, brushed to remove dust and loose debris, and then stained/sealed to create the unique designs you will find in the CHARRED collection. The top coat sealer is applied prior to shipping (for exterior applications, we recommend sealing the face & back).

BARK SIDE features a compilation of six nature-inspired designs in colors ranging from a crisp, snowy white to a dark, dusky gray. the name of the collection and the textured surface of the material was inspired by the horizontal ridges, known as lenticels, that are seen on the bark of species such as birch and black cherry.
the BARK SIDE designs are sustainably sourced, original cut white oak with a textured surface and are prefinished with our hardwax oil. the original cut incorporates plain sawn, rift sawn and quarter sawn grain patterns and all grades and character marks into the final product. in each design you will find common character marks including knots, checks, streaks and worm holes. our hardwax oil is natural, non-toxic and 100% VOC-free, and produces a durable, matte finish that respects the natural look and feel of the wood.
Rustic, strong, and deeply rooted in our history, American chestnut is an exquisite wood. Once dominating our eastern forests, and providing a seemingly endless supply of straight-grained, decay-resistant wood, these trees fell to an Asian-based fungal blight at the turn of the 20th century that all but wiped out the species. The blight left behind a mass of fallen timbers used for countless homes and buildings throughout the remainder of the century. Since 1983, the American Chestnut Foundation has been working to restore these trees. The foundation uses the backcross breeding method in an effort utilize the blight-resistant characteristics of the Chinese chestnut, while still maintaining the integrity of the American species. While the foundation works to restore balance to our forest ecosystem, reSAWN is working to preserve and reclaim chestnut from historic structures, recapturing the beauty of these antique woods. WORMWOOD , so named for the generous amount of worm holes found throughout the wood, includes defining character marks such as mineral staining, nail holes, and knots, and ranges in color from light tans to deep browns. See the beauty of WORMWOOD reclaimed chestnut on display in the Ambler Boiler House project, and this PA-based Barn Renovation.

This early nineteenth century barn was renovated with minimum change in structure or footprint. Originally a stone bank barn with stables and paddock facing south on the lower level and a large hayloft on the upper level, it has been transformed into a residence that celebrates the simple form, openness, and stone and wood finishes of the original structure.
All interior structural framing walls were left in place, while beams were selectively removed and reinforced to incorporate a new second floor that accommodates two bedrooms including a master bedroom, two bathrooms, study, dressing area, and closets … READ MORE.

Logs can be cut in several different ways to produce materials of varying aesthetics and dimensional stability. Understanding how these cuts are made in relation to the growth rings of the tree is the key to understanding the different look and performance of each cut. plain sawn is the most common cut of wood and is featured thoughout the Plateau collection. Rift & quarter sawn white oak is highly desired for both its clean aesthetic and dimensional stability. Read more reSAWN-Cuts-of-Wood.

Antique reclaimed barn siding can be a great addition to your next project. here are four different looks from reSAWN TIMBER co.’s enCORE collection of reclaimed woods and more details on the techniques behind these aesthetics.
WEATHERWORN: Weatherworn is reclaimed barn siding in the raw. The boards go through the typical reclamation process of power washing and denailing with the original patina of the board face left untouched. No finish is required as the boards have been naturally oxidized over the years to produce a tough, weather resistant “skin”. Colors can vary from gray, light brown to dark brown.
OLD SCHOOL & OLD YELLER begin as WEATHERWORN and go thru an additional step called “skip planing”. Skip planing is a process whereby the boards are put thru a planer set to only remove the high points, “skipping” over the low points to create contrast. Typical character marks include mineral staining, color changes, weathering, checking, nail holes, knots, and heavy patina. Available in SOLID ONLY. Call to discuss custom lengths and widths. Due to the nature of this material, thicknesses tend to vary slightly. Unfinished.
TRADEMARK is mixed species reclaimed barn siding that has been skip planed and finished with a hardwax oil. Skip planing is a process whereby the boards are put thru a planer set to only remove the high points, “skipping” over the low points to create contrast. Expected a wide variety of color and generous amounts of character. This material has a textured surface. Typical character marks include mineral staining, color changes, weathering, checking, nail holes, and knots.
