Elm Grove sits peacefully on a Wisconsin lakefront. The terraced build overlooks the expansive nature views of a wooded grove and the water beyond. The landscape of this site is different than the other neighborhood homes, offering its own distinct characteristics and challenges.
The windows expand in size and frequency as the residence rises in elevation, with the upper floors occupying the steep hill, providing surrounding views. The main entrance defies the typical foundation of a residential home, entering on the second floor, as the rest of the home recedes deeper into nature, providing an isolated space of privacy.
TEAK exterior cladding wraps the entirety of the residence, blending modern architecture with natural space. The wood façade sits on the lakeside and continues to perform as intended, reflecting the homeowner’s vision for aesthetics and longevity. The material’s clear vertical grain provides a precise, textured surface for the site’s organic structure.
In partnership with the architect, warranty discussions centered on longevity — ensuring the product would stand up to time and weather in a waterside environment. A field mockup was created with TEAK to evaluate how the product would perform and weather on-site. With its patented vertical grain orientation and 15-year warranty, TEAK was confidently chosen for the final specification. RESAWN provided detailed installation guidelines for a custom rainscreen system beneath the cladding. By creating a ventilated cavity that allows for drainage and continuous airflow, the assembly helps mitigate moisture buildup and extends the life of the material in demanding conditions.
