The second location under the Mistral brand umbrella, Mistral KOP is a chef driven restaurant concept at the King of Prussia mall. Four-time James Beard semifinalist, Scott Anderson, will continue to oversee the Princeton and King of Prussia locations. Different than the typical mall dining experience, Mistral’s exterior and interior designs combined with the seasonal, local menu are set to introduce a dynamic culinary experience to the area. Found throughout the project are diverse examples of reSAWN products: WABI SABI shou sugi ban exterior siding, GOVERNOR european white oak flooring, and custom stairs designed to match the flooring.

Eimer Design, out of Philadelphia, designed the exterior and interior of the new restaurant. When considering Mistral’s culinary style, the selection of WABI SABI shou sugi ban charred exterior siding is clear because of the siding’s durability, FSC® certification, and extended product life cycle. Additionally, the shou sugi ban exterior siding stands out from the rest of the mall’s neutral colored facade.

The interior of the restaurant is brightly lit with pendant lighting, white textured interior cladding, and GOVERNOR european white oak flooring. reSAWN’s custom designed stair parts lead up to a lifted platform lounge area that features couches and other decorative seating. Mistral plans to expand their seating capacity with an outdoor, patio dining area.

Mistral opened its first location in Princeton, NJ in 2013, offering locals and passersby alike a stunning mix of taste, style and atmosphere. Food activists and culinary pioneer’s chef Scott Anderson and chef de cuisine Ben Nerenhausen place a superlative emphasis on fresh, local ingredients, ultimately creating a progressive menu of seasonally curated small plates for guests to savor and share time and again.

At Eimer Design, they provide their clients with welcoming, contemporary spaces that capture their ideals and stay within their schedules and budgets. They base their service on three key principals: listening, specific and sensitive design solutions, and quality early budgets.

About the Project

Dixon Hughes Goodman, LLP included reSAWN’s KINOKO shou sugi ban reclaimed hemlock wall cladding in their new Gaithersburg location. Located in the LEED-EB Platinum certified, One Washingtonian Center, Dixon Hughes Goodman made the move from Rockville, MD with an increased focus on sustainability. Gensler-DC designed the office space with sustainable features and a simple aesthetic.

“The amenities of the office park overlooking a lake are top notch, and the location is extremely favorable to our workforce,” managing partner, Brian Carlton said in a Dixon Hughes Goodman press release. The office lobby features a large screen television and a wrap around front desk with KINOKO shou sugi ban wall cladding. Natural light streams into the main hallway through large office windows that provide a view into the One Washingtonian Center office park and lake. Each office has a display screen allowing employees to reserve conference rooms for meetings and teleconferences.

With a people-centered design, Gensler-DC was tasked with designing a space that is both aesthetically excellent and accessible for both employees and office visitors. The KINOKO shou sugi ban is highlighted with overhead lighting that accents the reclaimed hemlock’s natural, complex wood grain. A simple color theme that includes dark gray carpets and yellow furniture creates a warm, inviting interior.

This project features reclaimed hemlock that has been burnt in the Japanese tradition of shou sugi ban. This ancient technique is gaining new life as a unique and modern interior and exterior wall cladding. The wood is carefully charred, misted with water, cooled, brushed to remove dust and loose debris, and then stained/sealed to create the unique designs from reSAWN. The top coat sealer is applied prior to shipping (for exterior applications, we recommend sealing the face & back).

ABOUT THE PROJECT

With a primary goal of revitalizing Boston’s South End neighborhood, Elkus Manfredi Architects created a design aesthetic that focuses on returning the area to a lively, dynamic mixed-use community. Drawing inspiration from former building owners–the Boston Herald–Ink Block has become a pillar in Boston’s revitalization project with classic Bostonian motifs and contemporary, edgy design features.

Ink Block is comprised of three different apartment complexes that have vastly different design themes. 3 Ink offers a traditional industrial design that includes warmer colors and wood integrated throughout the building, and houses reSAWN’s WEATHERWORN reclaimed barn siding in the lobby.

reSAWN’s WEATHERWORN reclaimed barn siding is a beautiful way to incorporate antique building materials into a modern design. WEATHERWORN is an original board face reclaimed wood that is power washed and de-nailed with the original patina left untouched.

The wood is unfinished due to the natural oxidization process that produces a tough, weather resistant exterior. WEATHERWORN is available in a variety of different species and colors.

Elkus Manfredi Architects specified the dark brown and slightly maroon coloring as an ode to the building’s former use as a print facility. Referencing the CMYK color palette used in newspaper printing, WEATHERWORN evokes the rustic, working-class essence of print publications.

In line with their contemporary theme and antique accents, Elkus Manfredi Architects hoped to make Ink Block an icon of sustainable building. Ink Block sought to achieve four basic sustainable design goals: resource efficient, support health and wellness for its users, be flexible and adaptable, and be durable and maintainable. With WEATHERWORN being a reclaimed wood that does not contain any VOC finishes and has lasted for countless decades, the wood offered numerous sustainable qualities to the building.

With simple, subtle color notes, Osprey Software wanted a wood with a natural color and enhanced grain. reSAWN’s REED features antique reclaimed hemlock that is wire brushed to accentuate the unique grain pattern of hemlock.

The natural coloring of the REED feature wall truly stands out. Hemlock’s unique grain pattern becomes very clear with the overhead, track lighting.

Faced with an aging workforce and an outdated office space, Nixon Peabody, LLP worked with global architectural firm, Perkins + Will to begin plans that would discard its “corner office culture” quite literally with an office design that emphasizes communal workspaces and a cohesive effort towards a firm-wide goal.

Perkins + Will specified reSAWN’s FSC ® certified rift & quarter sawn select grade white oak flooring as a beautiful, modern design element that is also sustainable. With a focus on becoming the law firm most welcoming to Millenials, NP’s selection of FSC ® certified rift and quarter sawn white oak from reSAWN TIMBER co. joins the lobby’s living green wall as two exciting aesthetic features that promote sustainability. The open floor plan, glass conference rooms, living green wall, and FSC ® certified white oak flooring combine to create a modern office space that rejects hierarchy in favor of a community-centered office culture.

reSAWN TIMBER co. offers rift & quarter sawn lumber for a consistent, clean board face. The consistent board face consists of a mostly vertical grain that lends added stability to quarter & rift sawn boards making them less likely to cup or crown. Expansion and contraction occurs parallel to the direction of the growth rings – in this case vertically – resulting in added stability and making these cuts ideal for wide plank flooring and wood flooring over radiant heat. The select grade eliminates any large character marks, and limits the allowances to very small burls and knots.

Mortar Architecture + Development was founded by Anthony Morena with the mission to bring responsible development to New York City and the surrounding region by integrating architecture and development into a single practice. ABOUT THE PROJECT

reSAWN TIMBER co.’s Japanese-inspired MONOGATARI charred wood is the perfect compliment to this vibrant, modern sushi restaurant in Boerum Hill Brooklyn.

Sushi Ganso, a part of the Ganso Group, is run by Harris Salat and Chef Tadashi Ono, longtime collaborators and co-authors of popular Japanese cookbooks.

Tadashi, Ganso’s Partner and Culinary Director, is a celebrated chef who has won plaudits for both his Japanese and French cooking in The New York Times, Gourmet, Food & Wine and other publications. From 2003 to 2012 he served as Executive Chef of Matsuri.

Harris, Ganso’s Managing Partner, is a Brooklyn native long fascinated by Japan. Harris’s stories about Japanese cuisine have appeared in The New York Times, Saveur, Gourmet and other publications. Harris has also trained in Japanese restaurant kitchens in New York, Tokyo and Kyoto.

Sushi Ganso was designed by Amy Butchko of Butchko & Co. Amy worked with natural materials to create a casual, comfortable atmosphere that evokes a Japanese sensibility.

DISGAU and EwingCole collaborated on this project and specified reSAWN’s STEAMBOAT wide plank oak for ceiling cladding & millwork throughout Caesar Rodney Hall at the University of Delaware.

This project includes new construction of Dining Services and Residence Hall facilities adjacent to the historic main quad at University of Delaware. The Dining Services program consists of a new dining facility with a capacity of 1,220 seats and a net program area of approximately 65,000 gsf.

The Residence Hall program consists of a new student residence hall with a target population of 303 beds. Key features include: an exterior dining terrace, three primary residential buildings with a roof terrace that
creates a passage from the quad to Academy Street; and a series of terraced landscape platforms on Academy Street that create an outdoor student commons.

DIGSAU is an award-winning firm practicing contemporary architecture, urbanism and environmental design. Based in Philadelphia, the firm is recognized for expertise in providing unique, high-quality design to a diverse client group. The office operates as on open studio, and consists of a staff of twenty, including seven Registered Architects.

The new Caesar Rodney Hall was designed with the environment in mind. The project uses sustainable design principles in keeping with the US Green Building Council’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Program. Following these practices will not only have tangible benefits to students and the University, but will save energy and cost over the life of the building. reSAWN’s locally sourced white oak and 100% VOC-free hardwax oil finish helped contribute to the sustainability profile of this facility.

CCS Architecture specified reSAWN’s TORA shou sugi ban charred cypress for Nordstrom in the Pacific Centre in downtown Vancouver, BC. Nordstrom occupies 3 floors of the recently redesigned Pacific Centre including the ground floor. One of several dining venues inside Nordstrom, Bistro Verde features reSAWN’s TORA charred cypress wall cladding in #2 common grade.
