ABOUT THE PROJECT
A northwest suburb of Washington, D.C., Bethesda is a hub of young professionals and diplomats. The Bethesda residence contrasts the classic colonial neighborhood with a dark color palette and the inclusion of reSAWN’s MATSU shou sugi ban Accoya wood. Using a dark gray coupled with the black shou sugi ban wood siding, Anne Decker Architects lightened the mood of the house with the inclusion of large windows.

The private residence in Los Angeles, CA commands attention for its polygonal structure and use of bright, warm colors. In addition to the other design elements, reSAWN TIMBER co.’s MURASAKI shou sugi ban charred cypress adds complexity and beauty with it’s pronounced wood grain. The neutral tones of the exterior siding allow the other architectural elements to stand out. Designed by hughesumbanhowar architects, the house is an ode to the firm’s philosophy to be “guided by curiosity and intelligence.”

The second location under the Mistral brand umbrella, Mistral KOP is a chef driven restaurant concept at the King of Prussia mall. Four-time James Beard semifinalist, Scott Anderson, will continue to oversee the Princeton and King of Prussia locations. Different than the typical mall dining experience, Mistral’s exterior and interior designs combined with the seasonal, local menu are set to introduce a dynamic culinary experience to the area. Found throughout the project are diverse examples of reSAWN products: WABI SABI shou sugi ban exterior siding, GOVERNOR european white oak flooring, and custom stairs designed to match the flooring.

Located at the epicenter of H Street in Washington, D.C., The Apollo brings an exciting apartment complex to one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in D.C. The lobby is large and open with a full bar and seating area to the right of the front desk and elevators located behind the desk. White tile floors lead up to the most impressive feature of the new complex: a three level balcony that includes reSAWN’s Antique Reclaimed Oak flooring, wall claddings, and stair treads from the enCORE collection.

The North Face is a well established outdoor sports brand under the ownership umbrella of VF Corporation. The brand joins the likes of JanSport and Timberland in VF Corporation’s “Outdoor Action Sports” section. With the company’s background and identity as an outdoor sports clothing and equipment retailer, they were inspired by the ruggedness and simplicity of nature. Architecture and design team, Rapt Studio, used reSAWN’s MERCER white oak flooring , exposed ceilings, and brick walls to convey The North Face brand.

LEED-EB PLATINUM Certified
Dixon Hughes Goodman, LLP included reSAWN’s KINOKO shou sugi ban reclaimed hemlock wall cladding in their new Gaithersburg location. Located in the LEED-EB Platinum certified, One Washingtonian Center, Dixon Hughes Goodman made the move from Rockville, MD with an increased focus on sustainability. Gensler-DC designed the office space with sustainable features and a simple aesthetic.
2016 brought an abundance of charred shou sugi ban, reclaimed wood, FSC certified flooring, solid, custom built furniture, and sometimes a little bit of everything. From the Longport Residence and Commonwealth Joe to Sushi Ganso and the University of Delaware, reSAWN TIMBER co. focused on consistently providing high-quality products for commercial and residential projects both large and small. reSAWN intends to provide the best possible customer experience from the sampling phase through project completion, and continues to innovate by asking, “Could we be doing this better?”
There is much to be excited about in 2017, but for now, let’s look back at 10 of our favorite projects from 2016.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
With an origin story that includes a mother and son coffee roasting team, biking cold brew coffee kegs to farmer’s markets and high-tech offices, and supplying coffee to the owners’ favorite indie coffee shops, Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters has opened its first permanent location at the former home of “Arlington’s Original Coffee House.” The four childhood friends who make up the ownership group bought the “Java Shack” from owner Dale Roberts in 2015, and were named the D.C. metropolitan’s “Best Coffee Shop” by Washington City Paper in 2016.
