Exterior Cladding and Slats:
Abodo Vulcan Cladding in SiOO:X finish

With a goal of longevity, this home was designed with the elements in mind by using SiOO:X exterior cladding and slats. The understated aesthetic of this home will withstand the test of time with SiOO:X and will weather gracefully. This thermally efficient, resilient, and self-sufficient design was built as a safe-haven retreat. The owner wanted a place to retreat to if a natural disaster struck, and was built with those expectations. A large solar array, a diesel generator, and water tanks were chosen for disaster preparation. The building materials were chosen to maintain the home’s longevity for future generations. Parts of the home are also built with excavated schist from the home’s surroundings.

SiOO:X Wood Protection on Abodo Vulcan Cladding by reSAWN TIMBER co. for exterior cladding features a water-based and environmentally friendly finish, with a unique, patented formula based on silicon-potassium designed to accelerate the natural weathering process. Weathered wood is an aesthetic that is increasingly sought after but the challenge is, how to achieve it without taking the risk of uneven weathering on different aspects of the building, or in protected areas, such as overhanging eaves.

SiOO:X provides a solution by mirroring the natural aging process and accelerating the creation of the silver-grey appearance and giving long life protection in a completely environmentally friendly way. SiOO:X penetrates the wood and gives a light surface that is pleasant to touch. Apart from the surface being beautiful, it also is a barrier to algae, mold, and rot from gaining a hold in the wood. The surface is very easy to wipe down making maintenance simpler. The SiOO:X treatment reinforces and strengthens the wood surface.
